Sonae Arauco has received the Digital Transformation in Business Award at the 2026 Digital Innovation Awards, organised by the Spanish newspaper El Norte de Castilla.

The distinction recognises the company’s strategic and long-term approach to industrial digitalisation, particularly across its operations in Cuéllar and Valladolid. This approach combines data, Artificial Intelligence, industrial knowledge and employee expertise to improve decision-making, quality, efficiency and sustainability.

“This award does not recognise an isolated achievement, but rather a strategic vision of how digitalisation can support the industrial sector. At the heart of this journey is Sonae Arauco’s Digital Plant platform, which connects industrial equipment and brings process and production data together in a single source of reliable information”, says Ángel García Bombín, Industrial Digital Transformation Competence Center Director at Sonae Arauco.

Used in the daily management of the company’s operations, this platform helps teams monitor performance, analyse potential deviations and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Building on this digital foundation, Sonae Arauco has also developed AI-based predictive quality models that anticipate product performance during production, helping teams respond more quickly to potential deviations and operate closer to the optimal production point.

These technologies also contribute to the company’s sustainability ambitions by supporting more energy-efficient production and enabling the integration of different types of wood into the production mix.

At the same time, Sonae Arauco’s approach places people at the centre of digital transformation. Employee training is essential to ensure that teams understand, trust and use new technologies effectively, combining advanced digital capabilities with industrial knowledge and human expertise.

This is the latest recognition of a digital transformation journey developed over several years across Sonae Arauco. In 2019, the company was named “Best Digital Transformation Enterprise” at the European Digital Mindset Awards. More recently, its industrial digital transformation was also recognised in Germany, underlining the consistency of Sonae Arauco’s long-term approach to digitalisation.
